Image of Proterospongia dybsoeensis (Grøntved 1956) Loeblich Iii

Description:

Proterospongia dybsoeensis (GrÜntved, 1956) Loeblich III, 1967. The cells are ovoid, the longitudinal axis is 5.5-8.0 microns, there is one collar and one flagellum, which is 3-4 times longer than the cell body. In the basal part of the cell one (or two) vacuole(s). The nucleus of the cell could not be observed in the preserved material. In a number of 3-10 the cells are enveloped in a gelatinous hyaline substance, in the colonies thus formed they are arranged side by side in one row, which forms the longitudinal axis of the colony, consequently the longitudinal axis of the cell is approximately at right angles to that of the colony, otherwise the orientation is irregular, as the apical ends of the cells may point in different directions.
