Native to Thailand and the Malesia ecozone - Borneo, Indonesia - Irian Jaya, Kalimantan, Sumatra; Malaysia; Papua New Guinea; Philippines. Tree up to ca 25 m tall. Habitat - wet lowland forest. The older leaves are more potent. An old elderly friend, told me that chewing the leaves will make you feel good and able to work hard in the field. Easing the mind, energize the body and allows a sort of meditative repose under the most grueling physical conditions. Traditionally also use for relieving migraine and as postnatal herbal decoction.Classified as Third Schedule of Poisons (Psychotropic Substance) Regulation 1989, Poison Ordinance 1952. Effective January 2003 this plant is declared as controlled item.
