Female Sapyga quinquepunctata vs female Candy-stripe spider (Enoplognatha ovata) (17134417385)

Image of Enoplognatha ovata (Clerck 1757)

Description:

Description: This small wasp was well and truly entangled in the web of a Candy-stripe spider, but was fighting ferociously for its life. This photo shows the turning point of the struggle, where the wasp finally gets the upper hand by trying to bite the spider's leg off. The spider fled in a hurry, leaving the wasp to free itself from the sticky strands and fly away, seemingly unscathed. The solitary wasp Sapyga quinquepunctata is a cleptoparasite of several species of Osmia and Chelostoma bees. Date: 2 July 2014, 14:38.
