Description:

Description: English: An eurypauropodid arthropod (Pauropoda: Eurypauropodidae Original description on Flickr: Eurypauropods are a little studied and very seldom photographed proto-millipede usually around a millimetre big. They live in the deep leaf litter and top soil layers. I had to find one over in New Zealand as I've really enjoyed photographing the UK's only eurypauropodid, Trachypauropus brittanicus.. to date, still the only photographs of live UK specimens. So on the third day I was here, I went out specifically looking for one. And sure enough, up a cliff path at the top of Sailer's Grave, a little cove on the east coast of the Coromandel peninsula, I found one. Unfortunately, and mind-screamingly annoyingly, my camera was out of battery, so I had to walk 3 miles back home, swearing my head off, charged my battery for 2 hours then walked 3 miles back and spent another couple of hours hunting with my loupe until I found another, which was a little bigger, about one and a half millimetres, so it was all good. I'm really pleased with all of them- I think they show some cool aspects of a eurypauropod. These photos, again, are the first ever taken of live New Zealand eurypauropods.
