For all you beetle fans out there, this one had a dark blue band around its periphery! Anybody know what it is and would like to add a comment to this entry? Thanks to Brian Marshall who has identified the beetle - it's a Violet Ground Beetle (Carabus violaceus). One of our largest beetles. It is black with a metallic violet sheen - hence the name. Its wing casings are fused together, and they have a flattened flange all the way around the edges. Date: 24 July 2007. Source: From geograph.org.uk. Author: Andy Beecroft.
