Description: Common name: Fall Phlox, Garden Phlox, Perennial Phlox Botanical name: Phlox paniculata - [ (floks) meaning flame, blaze; (pan-ick-yoo-LAY-tuh) or (pan-ick-yoo-LAH-tuh) referring to the flower clusters (panicles) ] Cultivars: Sandra (foreground), Fujiyama (background) Family: Polemoniaceae (phlox, or jacob's ladder family) - [ (po-le-MOH-nee-uh-see-ay) named after one of its genera Polemonium ] Origin: North America Phlox is a widely grown perennial with strong stems and showy domed flowerheads which persist for many weeks during the summer. It is an excellent plant for use in the perennial border or cutting garden, but requires some extra maintenance for optimum growth. 'Sandra' has scarlet flowers, commonly called as Scarlet summer phlox. 'Fujiyama' has white flowers, commonly known as Border phlox.
