Description: English: Cymothoa exigua, or the tongue-eating louse, is a parasitic crustacean of the family Cymothoidae. The parasite enters fish (here on the back of a Sand steenbras, Lithognathus mormyrus) through the gills and then attaches itself to the fish's tongue. Den suger blod från fiskens tunga, vilken förtvinar och så småningom ersätts av kräftdjuret, även funktionellt. Parasiten på denna bild har lämnat sin värd, ett exemplar av havsrudefisken Lithognathus mormyrus, sedan fisken dött.
