Description: English: The dorsal (upper) side of the wings of the West Coast Lady (Vanessa annabella) are similar to the Painted Lady (Vanessa cardui), with four distinguishing differences: (1) upper surface of forewing with orange (not white) postmedian bar, (2) forewing apex squared off (clipped), (3) black bar completely crossing forewing cell, also the Painted Lady has a white costal (front) bar on the forewing while the West Coast Lady has a yellow bar (4) uppersurface of hindwing with 3–4 submarginal blue spots sharply ringed in black.
