Fishing Spider Dolomedes tenebrosus Ontario eats bluett damselflies 8311

Description:
Description: English: Taken in Ontario, Canada. Fishing spiders can walk (well, run, really) on water to reach a lily pad where insects it preys on (like the bluett damselfly seen here) gather. They are called fishing spiders because they can carry enough air underwater with them in silken pouches to hunt for tiny fish. Date: 9 July 2011, 14:36:47. Source: Own work. Author: Paul Harrison.
