Thai steamed fish with lime juice
Description:
Description: English: Pla nueng manao (Thai: ปลานึ่งมะนาว): Fish steamed with lime juice. The fish is pla nin (Thai: ปลานิล, Oreochromis niloticus) so this dish would in full be called pla nin nueng manao (Thai: ปลานิลนึ่งมะนาว). Most recipes call for the fish to be steamed plain and then smothered in a dressing of chopped garlic, chillies, lime juice, fish sauce and chicken stock. The spearmint (bai saranae, Thai: ใบสะระแหน่, Mentha spicata) is used to cover up the somewhat strong smell of this particular fish but it is more common to see this dish served with coriander/cilantro leaves (phak chi, Thai: ผักชี) instead of mint.
