Description: Another hydnoid fungus still very common in dry pine forests around Ugut - this year it was so abundant that I was tempted to collect it to experiment with dyeing wool with bright pigments it contains. I collected some bright Cortinarius species for the same purpose.. maybe someday. eventually))). Apparently it requires very poor sandy soils to thrive - it's become extinct in many parts of its former habitat due to nitrogen pollution, including the Netherlands where it was last recorded in 1965.
