Description: English: Powelliphanta augusta was discovered in 1996 by Nelson Botanical Society members, but DOC was unaware of its existence till early 2004. It is now confined to a 4 ha site just north of Mt Augustus on the Stockton coal plateau. All of this snail's remaining habitat was destroyed through expansion of the Stockton open-cast coal mine in 2005. Date: 2005. Source: New Zealand Department of Conservation. Author: K. J. Walker.
