American Coots on Seedskadee NWR 02 (15064776204)

Image of Fulica Linnaeus 1758

Description:

Description: American coots are common nesters on Seedskadee NWR. They build their floating nests among the hard stem bulrush and cattails. As fall approaches, additional coots begin to migrate and stage in larger numbers on Seedskadee NWR. Although they may appear at first glance to be a duck, they are actually closer relatives of the Sandhill Crane and the nearly invisible rails than of mallards or teal. Photo: Tom Koerner/USFWS.
