The reaction allows crustaceans to escape predators through rapid abdominal flexions that produce powerful swimming strokes — thrusting the crustacean backwards through the water and away from danger. This animation depicts an Antarctic krill executing this maneuver. Date: 12 June 2013, 09:15:58. Source: derivative image of File:Krilllobsterkils.gif.
