Description: Caterpillars of this genus feed on diatoms and other algae which they scrape from rocks in streams. Adult females enter the water to oviposit, carrying a plastronlike layer of air as a source of oxygen (lasts for hours), often 4 m deep. After ovipositing they die in the water. (from bugguide.net/).
