Large S. corporalis would probably have visible flap-like maxillary barbels. S. corporalis does not presently occur in Lake Erie, so this confusion will not occur unless pioneers cross eastern Lake Ontario. This specis, sometimes referred to as the White Amur, was first introduced in Alabama and Arkansas from Taiwan and Malaysia and now exists in at least 40 U.S. states.
