Flickr - Rainbirder - Long-tailed Manakin (Chiroxiphia linearis) in habitat (1)

Description:
Description: Like most (possibly all) of the Chiroxiphia Manakins, the males join forces to produce a dancing team at a favoured site. The male birds at these leks cooperate but only the dominant male mates with the females; the subordinate males are essentially apprentices. Image taken at Heliconias Lodge, Bijagua, Costa Rica. Date: 13 July 2008, 20:18. Source: Long-tailed Manakin (Chiroxiphia linearis) in habitat. Author: Steve Garvie from Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland.
