Crataegus monogyna - fruit (4811' N 1628' E)

Description:
2010-11-27 Vienna XXII. district (Donauinsel - Toter Grund 155 m AMSL).The red fruit of Crataegus monogyna are not a bird's favourite, and for this reason they remain on the trees even in and, oftentimes, through winter. In a way they're emergency rations for birds (and were even for humans, shortly after World War II, when they were harvested despite them being so slack and dull).German name: Weissdorn
