Female bush katydid with...
Description:
...spermatophore. This female Scudderia was quite near what I believe to be a male Scudderia texensis, but I did not observe the mating. Also visible here is the "ear" on the foreleg.Additional note: Doing some quick research on "The Google", I realize that the large structure is actually a "spermatophylax", which is a nutritional gift to the female. The spermatophore proper (circular structure on right?) is smaller. Interesting that in katydids, the female mounts the male--bizarre. Sorry I missed the actual mating.
