arboricole Tiger beetle (Neocollyris arnoldi) from a Javan lowland rainforest
Description:
This is a probably a new subspecies of Neocollyris arnoldi which usually inhabits mountain rainforests, however, I found a small population in one of the last remaining patches of lowland-rainforest in W-Java: Dungus Iwul ca. 8 ha of beautiful rainforest (incl. a rare palm tree Orania sylvicola and the Javan gibbon) that is threatened by expanding oil palm plantations, illegal logging and hunting!Neocollyris (Stenocollyris) arnoldi MacLEAY, 1825, ssp. nov. ??
