Description:
Psilostrophe cooperiwhitestem paperflower. Found in the Mojave and Colorado Deserts of California, much of the southwestern US deserts and northwestern Mexico. The plant responds to both winter and summer rains and may blooms twice in a year. The name "paperflower" comes from the persistant ray flowers that turn papery as they age. Some are visible in this photo. Photographed at Ranch Santa Ana Botanic Garden Claremont, CA.
