Description:
Lingulodinium (ling-you-low-din-ee-um) polyedra, so-called polyedral shape, with equatorial groove (girdle = cingulum) following a descending spiral path. Can form cysts. Some members of this genus produce toxins. Correct identification needs expert input, which can be obtained from other sites such as IOC Harmful Algal Bloom Program. Differential interference microscopy.
