Description:
Endemic to the Big Island of Hawaii and found only in wet forests near Kilauea and NE Mauna Loa. These plants were found in the Olaa forest which is dominated by Ohia trees (Metrosideros polymorpha) and 3 Cibotium tree fern species (C. glaucum, C. menziesii, C. chamissoi). The plants in this photo were growing very close to a rare lobeliad, Cyanea tritomantha. Elevation approximately 3800ft/1159m.
