General Description

provided by Cybertruffle
On Potato Sucrose Agar (PSA). Colonies. After 4 days growth rate varies from 3.9-4.7 cm diam. with a mean ñ SD = 4.28 ñ 0.3, with abundant, cottony to floccose aerial mycelium which is white to light orange with brownish orange pigmentation; immersed mycelium is yellowish white to pale yellow with golden brown pigmentation. On Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA). Colonies. After 10 days growth varies from 7.55-8.45 cm length with a mean ñ SD = 7.95 ñ 0.25, with abundant floccose white to brownish orange mycelium and brown pigmentation; immersed mycelium brownish yellow with dark brown pigmentation; producing globose, smooth walled "chlamydospores" in the hyphae, singly, in chains or in clumps, becoming brown with age. Anamorph. Sporodochia develop in older isolates, marked by the orange colour of the conidial mass. Conidia. Of one type; macroconidia fusoid to broadly falcate, usually 3- to 5-septate, 20-46 × 4.5-5 μm, but occasionally up to 7-septate, each with a curved, pointed apical cell and well developed foot-shaped basal cell, occasionally forming "chlamydospores" within the conidia; microconidia not observed. Teleomorph. Not known. Notes. This species is able to grow on Glycerol Nitrate Agar (G25N) medium with growth of more than 2 cm diam., producing yellowish aerial mycelium and yellow pigmentation; growth on mannitol medium is less than 4 cm diam. and produces yellowish orange or reddish yellow or yellow aerial mycelium and yellow pigmentation; growth on Czapek-Dox Iprodione Dichloran Agar (CZID) produces white or yellowish aerial mycelium and grayish orange or yellow or reddish orange pigmentation; growth on Dichloran Chloramphenicol Peptone Agar (DCPA) exceeds 5 cm diam.
