After watching these eggs for nearly a month, there are so many details of the developing embryon clearly visible. Toes and tails, gills, the yolk, the spot pattern characteristic of juvenile Duskies.Dusky Ravine, Houghton Creek, Allegany County, NY (USA)

I was thrilled to pull up a piece of thick moss and discover this amphibian nursery.

Newly discovered population of Dusky Salamanders in Tuscola County, MI. First state record; population confirmed as breeding. Whether introduced or a relict population is unknown.

King of the fishless streams. Ok, not really, but they are adept hunters. Check out those protuberant eyes and that keeled tail!
