Description
provided by Flora of Zimbabwe
Herbs, perennial, acaulescent, the leaves and flowering stem arising directly from the surface of the uppermost of a stack of discoid corms, from which the roots also arise. A fresh corm is produced each year above that of the previous year. The scape (flowering stem) also arises from the top of the corm, independently of the leaf. The petiole and the scape are each sheathed in a catophyll (leafy bract), and the scape has 1-3 bracts.
