Pileus fleshy, becoming expanded and depressed in the center, up to 10 cm. broad; surface varying in color from dark-dull-red to reddish-brown or more or less sordid-buff, fading, viscid when wet, with separable pellicle, glabrous; margin thin, at length coarsely tuberculatestriate: context white, mild; lamellae from white to yellow-pulverulent, equal, nearly free, distant, broad; stipe white at first, clavate, then subequal, spongy-stuffed, rather short: spores pale-yellow, globose, echinulate, 7-9 ju in diameter.
Type locality: Sweden.
Habitat: In woods.
