Lifespan, longevity, and ageing
provided by AnAge articles
Maximum longevity: 2.7 years (captivity)
Observations: One anecdotal report, which may be true, claimed that one wild-caught female lived 2.3 years in captivity and may have been over 3 years old at the time of death (http://members.chello.at/natura/shrew/index.html). It is also possible, though unverified, that these animals live up to 4 years (Ernest 2003), just like similar species. Females may mate as young as 2 months of age. Males typically mate in their second year of life.
