Came upon this sad sight on the way to Jogi gundi falls, Agumbe.This beautiful animal suffered a slow and agonizing death entangled on a barbed wire fence. It is a shame this animal had to die this way. :-(
Delmarva [Eastern] Fox Squirrel (Sciurus niger cinereus) - an endangered species - eating Red Maple seeds on Assateague Island, specifically Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, VA; a better shot of this subspecies than I got at Blackwater NWR in MD.
The American red squirrel eats 'seeds' from pine cones, and the remains are often left in small visible piles. Maine, 28th November 2008, mixed coastal forest. Identification by Bob Andersen. Thanks Bob.
