Diagnostic Description

Adult morphology Snout-vent 31-37 inm in males, 36-39 mm in females. Head flattened, as large as wide. Snout rounded, slightly truncate in profile. Canthus rostralis obtusely rounded. Nostrils close to the tip of snout. Maxillary teeth weak; vomerine teeth on two small, very close patches, on the lower border of the choanae. Tongue subcircular, broad, slightly shared behind. Interocular distance about the width of the upper eyelid, and larger than internarid interval. Eye prominent, irs diameter larger than the snout. PupiI horizontal. Tympanum small, evident, about Å? of the eye diameter. Foreleg and hindleg slender. When hindleg is adpressed, heel gocs beyond the eye; when the femurs are bent at right angIes to body, the tibio-tarsal articulations overlap. Fingers free; distal phalanges lung, T-shaped . Rate of the finger lengths : I-II-IV-III. Metacarpal tubercles moderate; subarticular tubercles conical, Toes moderated fringed, slightly webbed. Inner inetatarsal tubercle small, prominent; the outer inconspicuous. Tarsal fold not evident. Skin smooth, slightly granular on the lower surface of thighs. Coloration: Dorsum grayish or pale brownish, yellowish in living animals, marbled with dark, irregular speckles; a white-edged, brown, interocular spot. Dark bands on arms and legs. Ventrally crearnish, with large, evident, circular dots. Larval morphology Body ovoid in lateral view, two times longer than deep. Eyes small, interocular distance 2.3 times eye diameter, directed antero-dorsolaterally. Nostrils evident, pigmented, dorsal and salient, mid-way between eye and tip of snout. Spiracle sinsitral and lying at about mid-point on body, opening dorsolaterally. Anal tube very short, dextral. The caudal musculature is well developed. The moderately developed caudal fin rounded at i t s tip, not extending onto body. Mouth small, anteromedial, labial papillae interrupted anteriorly; tooth rows 213. Horny beak black and well developed. Color in life: golden-brownish above, abdomen black, internal organs not visible, dorsum mottled with guanophores. Minute guanophores are disposed on venter. Caudal musculature and fins with irregular brownish spots. Color in formalin gray. Measurements: Body length stage 30 (Gosner, 1960) 13.9-14.1 mm; stage 31 14 mm; stage 33 16.8 mm. Total length stage 30 32-33 mm; stage 31 34.2 mm; stage 33 37.7 mm.
