Bluethroat

Not only are bluethroats beautiful singers, they are also pretty birds. That blue throat which the males have certainly honors its name. Females don't have a colorful throat. There are two subspecies: the ones with a white spot and the ones with a red spot in the middle of the blue. Bluethroats live primarily in water-rich areas with lots of vegetation. They live off of insects, larvae and seeds.

Blauwborsten kunnen prachtig zingen en zijn ook nog eens mooi om te zien. Dat blauwe borstje bij de mannetjes doet zijn naam eer aan, vrouwtjes hebben geen gekleurd borstje. Er zijn twee ondersoorten; de witsterblauwborst heeft een wit vlekje in zijn blauwe borst, terwijl de roodsterblauwborst daar een rood vlekje heeft. Blauwborsten leven vooral in waterrijke gebieden met veel begroeiing. Ze eten insecten, larven en ook wel van zaden.
