This species is distinguished by the following characters: monospondylous vertebrae 46-52; precaudal total vertebrae 124-131; posterior nasal flap developed; first dorsal fin origin anterior to free rear tips of pectoral fin; snout length short with snout tip to oral length < 1.8 times internarial width; embryos and juveniles with dark complicated lines and rings; no accessory cartilage at symphysial part of upper jaw (Ref. 55581).

Biology

Claspers of most males are almost fully elongate and calcified at about 76 cm TL; while females are mature and pregnant at about 76 cm TL. Embryos less than 22 cm TL with only external yolk, most that are more than 22 cm TL with substantial internal yolk. Litter size from 5-8 with 2-4 embryos per uterus. Five pregnant specimens contained a total of 29 embryos (9 females and 20 males) and each embryo were covered separately by embryonic membrane (Ref. 55581).
