This species is distinguished by the following characters: robust and compressed body with big eyes; lower jaw with two pairs of tooth patches just outside of gape; gill rakers on first gill arch 10-13 on upper limb, total 32-38; lateral line scales 27-29 (modally 28); axil of pectoral fins without small scales; interorbital not very narrow, width 4.5-5.65 times in head length; caudal-peduncle length 6.2-7.25 times in standard length. Colour of body silvery white, tips of soft dorsal and anal fins and caudal-fin lobes with a black spot, the leading edges of these fins white; scales rimmed with brownish red dorsally and red on sides and ventrally; black pigment of opercular membrane extending to about level of lower edge of eye; outer part of spinous dorsal fin and most of soft dorsal and anal fins red (Ref. 40493).

Inhabit protected waters at depths greater than 25 m, often in silty reef areas than well developed coral reefs with clear water (Ref. 12419); also in rocky reefs (Ref. 9137). Their selected biotope (ring-shaped coral pockets), unlike linear crevice in a rock or coral, enables the fish to escape currents of any orientation arising from tidal and wave cumulation (Ref. 57783). A nocturnal species (Ref. 75154); tends to hide in caves or crevices during the day. Usually seen in pairs, but occasionally schools in some oceanic locations (Ref. 48635). An individual was observed hovering around a dead coral in the middle of a sandy bottom habitat (Ref. 120711).

體呈橢圓形或卵圓形,中等側扁。頭部具黏液囊,外露骨骼多有脊紋。眼大。口端位,斜裂;下頜骨前端外側有2對頜聯合齒;頜骨、鋤骨及腭骨均有絨毛狀群齒。前鰓蓋骨後下角無強棘;鰓蓋骨及下眼眶骨均有強弱不一的硬棘。體被大型櫛鱗;側線完全,側線鱗數29-30,側線至背鰭硬棘中間點之鱗片數2.5;胸鰭腋部無小鱗片。背鰭連續,單一,硬棘部及軟條部間具深凹,具硬棘X-I,軟條14。臀鰭有硬棘

melanosticta/)為本種之同種異名。
棲地

Description
Myripristis botche can reach a length of about 30 centimetres (12 in) TL. These fishes have 11 dorsal spines and 4 anal spines. The front of head is red, while the postorbital head and the body is silvery white, with red edges of scales. Soft dorsal, anal and caudal fin show white margins and black tips. Paired fins are white.[2]
This species can be found in the aquarium trade.
Behavior
This fish likes to hide in caves or crevices during the day. It is usually seen in pairs, and occasionally in schools in some oceanic locations.[2]
Distribution
This species can be found in the Indo-West Pacific.[2]
Habitat
The Blacktip soldierfish inhabits protected waters at depths between 25 and 71 meters, usually in silty reef areas and well developed coral reefs with clear water.[2]
