This species is distinguishable in having the following characters: D XIII, 13; A II, 13; 16 pectoral rays; 17 lateral line scales; 16 gill rakers; color in life white with a yellow area from posterior of the eye to first dorsal spine and down to the lateral line (Ref. 79841).

Biology

A moderately territorial species mostly found between 0.5-10 m depths in relatively protected areas; either inside the lagoon or within galleys on the exposed outside edge of the reef (Ref. 79841). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).
