Description: Dorsal fin XIV, 12-23; anal fin II,24-27; pectoral rays 14-15; pelvic fin I,4; numerous movable jaw teeth; crenulated lips margin; lower lip without fleshy disc; males occipital crest fleshy and well-developed. Body elongate; depth at anal fin origin 9-10 in SL. Overall grey; vertical bars on body 12, dark and diffuse; dorsal spots saddle 12 white; eye bar white with dark margin; anal fin with broad yellow stripe on base (Ref. 90102).

Biology

Found in intertidal zone rocky shorelines (Ref. 90102). Oviparous. Eggs are demersal and adhesive (Ref. 205), and are attached to the substrate via a filamentous, adhesive pad or pedestal (Ref. 94114). Larvae are planktonic, often found in shallow, coastal waters (Ref. 94114).
