Dirty Odure Snapper

Description: Eye large; snout short, about equal to, or shorter than eye diameter. Interorbital space convex. Upper and lower jaws about equal. Maxilla without scales. Pectoral fins long, reaching level of anus. Scale rows on back parallel to lateral line. Overall dark purplish-brown to bluish; silvery or whitish on lower sides and belly; dorsal and caudal fins brownish to slightly yellowish, the other fins whitish to translucent. Juveniles have a yellow to orange caudal fin (Ref. 48635). Body depth 2.5-2.7 in SL (Ref. 90102).

Occurs over rocky bottoms (Ref. 9710) and coral reefs (Ref. 9137). Found in schools. Feeds on plankton.

Adults are found over rocky bottoms often in schools. They feed on plankton (Ref. 9710, 48635). Usually marketed fresh.

印度-西太平洋之熱帶海域。西起非洲東岸，東至琉球群島。台灣主要分布於南部海域。

一般以一支釣、底層延繩釣等漁法捕獲。煎食或紅燒均宜。

體呈長橢圓形，稍側偏；標準體長約為體高之2.3-2.5倍。兩眼間隔顯著突出。眼前方無溝槽。下頜略突出於上頜；上頜骨末端延伸至眼前緣的下方；上頜骨無鱗。上下頜骨具帶狀齒，外列齒擴大，前方數齒呈犬齒狀；鋤骨具齒。體被中小型櫛鱗，背鰭及臀鰭上均裸露無鱗；側線完全且呈弧形，側線鱗數68-73。背鰭硬軟鰭條間無深刻；背鰭與臀鰭最末之軟條皆不延長而較前方鰭條短；背鰭硬棘X，軟條9-10；臀鰭硬棘III，軟條8；胸鰭長約等於頭長；尾鰭深叉形。體一致呈暗紫褐色，腹部較淡色。背鰭、臀鰭、胸鰭及尾鰭紫褐色；尾鰭後緣淡紅色；腹鰭淡褐色。依據 Nelson(1994)將其置於笛鯛(Lutjanidae)科中的擬烏尾冬亞科(Apsilinae)。

畫間常成群於礁區上水層中巡游，夜間即分散獨自棲息於礁洞中。以浮游動物為食。
