Prefers, but not limited to, coastal salt marshes. Found in coastal San Diego County and similar habitats in Baja California, including Isla de Cedros, Promoted in recent years by fire-fighting agencies in San Diego County as a fire-resistant ground cover. The corollas for both pistillate and staminate flowers are quite small: pistillate less than 1mm and staminate less than 2.5 mm.
