Also known as a 28 parrot for the call it makes. This is the sub species B.z.occidentalis found mainly in SW Australia. The red band on the forehead is the giveaway.
Yellow-crowned Parakeet, Cyanoramphus auriceps. Native. A species of parakeet endemic to the islands of New Zealand. The species is found across the main three islands of New Zealand, North Island, South Island and Stewart Island/Rakiura, as well as on the subantarctic Auckland Islands.
Endemic to Hawaii and endangered. Found only on the Big Island of Hawaii. This male hawk was photographed at the Panewa Zoo in Hilo. I observe Io's in the wild frequently in a variety of habitats and elevations on the windward side of the island.
The ʻŌmaʻo (Myadestes obscurus, also called the Hawaiian Thrush) is an endemic species of robin-like bird found only on the island of Hawaii. Omao are closely related to the other endemic thrushes of the Hawaiian Islands, the Kamao, the Olomao, and the Puaiohi. Omao are found primarily in rainforest in the eastern and southeastern regions of the Big Island.
