Description: Merulius tremellosus Schrader Location: CabinCove, Smoky Mountains, Haywood Co., North Carolina, USA Observation Notes: parchment fungus under rotten log in moist hardwood forestCAP: almost completely resupinate but a few edges stick out ~5-10mm, pinkish brown, watery, shaggy hairyFLESH: cap-colored, soft, tough enough that I could peel it off the log intact but it feels gelatinousGILL: irreg shallow vein-like reticulate wrinkles, cap-coloredSPORE: print whiteThe key in Demystified doesn’t inspire confidence in the species ID, but it’s got to be close.
