Description: Castilleja latifolia—Seaside paintbrush. Spotty, but sometimes locally abundant, distribution in coastal sand dunes from about Aptos in Santa Cruz County to a few miles south of Post Ranch in Monterey County. Threatened by sand mining in some locations. The type locality is in San Francisco, where it is not longer found. The plant is hemiparasitic, that is, it obtains nourishment from a host plant but also photosynthesizes.
