Hesperis matronalis L. An escapee from cultivation (it was once a common garden plant) typically along waterways but sometimes in the foothills in vernally moist areas. Common names of this species in the Mustard family include Dame's rocket, Dame's violet, Sweet rocket, Damask violet, and Mother-of-the-evening. This species is considered to be invasive in most states, and should NOT be planted in Utah (or other North American landscapes). In Utah, it has been reported from Cache, Salt Lake, Summit, Uintah, Utah, Washington and Weber Cos. (Salt Lake and Weber have often been missed in publications outlining its distribution).June 18, 2011, Holladay, Salt Lake County Utah, near/along Big Cottonwood Creek, 4375 ft. elev.
