Dioecious trees or shrubs, unarmed or spiny. Stipules 0. Flowers unisexual. Male flowers fasciculate or in short racemes; calyx (3-)4-7-lobed almost to base, pubescent to tomentose; petals 0; stamens numerous,
alternating with minute disk glands. Female flowers solitary or
in fascicles of 2-4; calyx 4-8-lobed almost to base, sometimes
accrescent in fruit; petals 0; styles 2-8, divergent. Fruit
a fleshy berry. Seeds few or up to 12, glabrous or hairy.
