A perennial shrub with stiff, spinescent, ribbed stems, villous and leafy at flowering. Leaves are ovate to oblong-elliptic, villous and with no stipules. Inflorescence is a 4–6-flowered raceme bearing mainly yellow, brown-veined flowers. Fruit is a subglobose, pubescent pod with 2–3 smooth seeds.
