Non-forested Lowlands.

This species is nocturnal.

Distribucion en Costa Rica:
Distribucion General: Mexico to Peru and Brazil (Sao Paulo).

Females feed on the blood of large mammals, especially domestic animals such as horses, cattle and pigs. It does not seem to feed on humans.

Immature stages have been collected in decaying leaves in small pools of water in a nearly dried up stream bed.

Hind tibiae without apical spurs; basicosta without strong setae; third antennal segment with at most an acute dorsobasal angle; tibiae not or only slightly inflated; frontal callus absent; uniformly pale pilose insects with greenish integument and unbanded eyes; labella sclerotized; wings without spots, glass-clear, only the costal cell yellowish; tibiae wholly pale haired.
