Sorry this is a tough image, but I greatly admire this seal. I first saw E.T. as a juvenile in 2003 ..he had the small dark puncture wounds on his belly but not the growth on his eye (possibly a papilloma virus). In 2005 he showed up with the growth, he has returned every summer and the growth has gotten slightly larger each year. Otherwise he looks plump, so must manage to feed himself just fine. He is a gentle soul allowing pups to get close without snapping at them and his face has beautiful proportions. He endures.
Old faithful! I identified her the first year of my study in 1988!! And have seen her regularly every summer since then. She used to have pups each summer but now seems to skip years (no pup this summer). She was a mature seal when I first saw her meaning she was at least 5 years old making her 27+ this summer. I think she is slipping into menopause and thoroughly enjoying it. She looks very healthy. She seeks out this exact spot on the haul out rock. Why she feels this is the primo, most "comfortable" spot is beyond me, but hey I am not a seal.
Return of another old friend. I have seen her every summer since 2000. She seems to use this haul out after she has weaned her pup (I only see her in July and August). She is a big calm healthy female.
