Single-leaf Pinyon Pine cones. These pines have one of the largest seeds(up to over an inch long) of pine in the world, and were an important part of the Native American diet. You can still buy them in the store after a good harvest year, although they aren't cheap since they have to be gathered from wild trees.

Single-leaf Pinyon nuts are one of the largest of any conifer, up to over an inch long, and are relished by wildlife,especially jays. They were also an important food for indigenous peoples of the Great Basin.
