Solenostemon scutellarioides 001
Description:
Description: Solenostemon scutellarioides (Linnaeus) Codd is the currently accepted scientific name for the plant commonly known as coleus and previously referred to as Coleus blumei Bentham and Plectranthus blumei (Bentham) Launert. The plant is a member of the mint family (Lamiaceae) and is a tender perennial commonly grown as an annual. Wildly popular during the Victorian era, it is now enjoying renewed popularity after a hiatus during which the plant was considered old-fashioned and quaint. Originally native to eastern Asia and Malesia, it is now found throughout the tropics as an escape from cultivation. Date: 6 May 2006. Source: Digital image taken by the author.
