Mountain cottontail on Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge (32274376090)

Image of Mountain Cottontail

Description:

Description: A mountain cottontail browsing on a black greasewood (Sarcobatus vermiculatus) stem on Seedskadee NWR. Black greasewood plants contain sodium and potassium oxalates and are toxic to livestock. It appears to be less toxic for many species of wildlife, and cottontails and jackrabbits are often spotted browsing on it during the winter. Photo: Tom Koerner/USFWS www.facebook.com/Seedskadee/.
