Description:

Description: Northern leopard frogs are an important food source for many marsh birds here on the refuge. The frogs hibernate through the winter in the bottom of the Bear River or other source of oxygenated water. These frogs require oxygen through hibernation, so they cannot burrow themselves into the mud like turtles.
