Remnant Populus angustifolius along the Big Lost River (5848245637)
Description:
Description: The Big Lost River in this area of the Upper Snake River Plains does not harbor a riparian plant community but rather one that resembles roadside vegetation (colonizers of disturbance-prone settings). Iva axillaris (povertyweed) and Grindelia squarrosa (curlycup gumweed) are two of the common herbs in the dry river bed, whereas Agropyron dasystachyum (thickspike wheatgrass) is the commonest grass. Most of the plants in this dry river bed occur in adjacent sagebrush steppe (excepting Grindelia, Verbena, Agropyron intermedium, for example) and none can be described as riparian.
